Week 11

Hi everyone!

This may have just been my favorite week on the mission so far!!! Stay tuned and I'll tell ya why :)

We were back to actual missionary life this week and it was kinda weird not going to the temple every day. It took a little bit for us to remember how to actually do missionary work again haha! The beginning of the week was rough, not gonna lie, but we're up and running now don't worry :)

On Thursday we had planned to do service for a less active member, but she didn't end up being home so instead of going home we decided to drop by another lady in our ward and just see how she was doing (even though we were in our service clothes). Well it turns out that she wasn't doing good at all. Her house was a MESS. Like I don't think the dishes had been done in months. So we immediately started cleaning (good thing we were still in service clothes, right?) As we were talking with her and cleaning she started crying and saying how grateful she was for us and that God had sent us to her. What a neat experience! I love knowing that the spirit directs us exactly where we need to be. We were an answer to her prayers.

Okay okay okay ready for some amazing news?? KEVIN IS GETTING BAPTIZED!! We had a lesson with him on Friday and we taught him the plan of salvation. I invited him to be baptized on December 9th and he said yes!! He's been doing great with not smoking! Ahh! I'm so excited for him! Please keep the prayers up for him so he can have the strength to continue not smoking!

THEN! (yes that's right, there's more!) On Saturday we watched the Cultural Celebration for the temple dedication. It was so fun and reminded me of the Idaho Falls one! President Uchtdorf and Elder Christofferson came to dedicate the temple.
So Sis Ray and I were driving past the temple after the cultural celebration and guess who we saw outside the temple!? Pres. Uchtdorf! So we made a u-turn and pulled into the temple. We got pretty close to him, but when we tried to talk to him his security people didn't let us. They kicked us out and said we could come back in 45 mins when he would be done with the inspection of the temple. So where were we 45 mins later? That's right. Back at the temple hahaha. (it's in our area so it wasn't out of the way at all)
Well all these other people had shown up because they knew he was there and they wanted to see him. We just stood by our car (and made sure our tags were very visible lol) and when he came out he kept looking over at us as he was talking to other important looking people. We waved to him and said we loved him! After he was done talking he started walking towards the car, but instead of getting in he walked past all the other people waiting to see him and came straight to us!! Elder Christofferson followed him and they called us by name, shook our hands and asked us where we were from! Elder Christofferson said he's been to Fayetteville NC and that he loves it there! They were so kind and the love emanating from them was so powerful and touching. Oh and the look on Pres Uchtdorf's face when he decided to come talk to us was amazing! I can't even describe it. He thanked us for serving and told us that he loved us. AHHH! We were screaming when we got back in the car lolol! If anyone saw us I'm sure they were very entertained. We forgot to get a picture with them, but his personal security guard took some on his phone.

This was definitely an answer to my prayers. An answer that I've been waiting for for a long time. Heavenly Father is so aware of us and sends answers in ways we could never have imagined. It's usually not in the form of 2 apostles of the Lord, but sometimes you get lucky hahaha!

Sunday was the dedication. We didn't have tickets to go inside the temple, but we decided to show up and see if they had an extra seat or two. They didn't...but they were about to start the cornerstone ceremony thing and we got to be there for that! Of course we saw both Uchtdorf and Christofferson again AND their personal security guard. We hunted him down and asked him to email those pictures to us! Unfortunately I don't think they got sent to the right email because we didn't get the pictures :(((
The dedication was beautiful though! We watched 2 out of the 3 sessions (we watched it at the stake center where it was being broadcasted).

It's been an incredible weekend and I've been beyond blessed! God knows me. He's aware of my struggles and the things that I need. Even all the way out here in Star, Idaho. And He does the same for all of you no matter where you are. Let us not forget to thank him for even the little things!

Love,

Sister Erika Hales

Last p-day we went to this cool sandbar by the lake!
